Lesson planning can have it's benefits and deficits. It can be seen as too teacher centered and leave no flexibility for the class to flow and develop. It can also create structure and help tell where the class has been and where they need to go. One should not use lesson plans as a means of what to say exactly when, but more so as notes to help the teacher stay on task throughout the lesson. Lesson plans are meant to work as guidelines, to lead the direction of the class and ensure that all important topics are properly covered and discussed. It can benefit the teacher and student alike, but not become the focal point more so that it containing the focal point.
