In the last unit I have learned about troubleshooting. There might be a lot of different problems for teachers to face regarding students’ motivation, English knowledge levels, class size and comprehension. Every teacher will have his/her very first lesson with the new group of students and it is important to establish a good rapport, find out about the students, their interests and learning experiences. There are lots of ideas to break the ice like questionnaire, needs analysis and pass the ball game. Another difficulty might be to get your students warmed up before the beginning of each lesson. Hangman, Pictionary and memory games can be used to awake students’ interest and draw their attention. In large classes the main concern is how to maximize students’ participation and STT. Teachers can use worksheets, a lot of pair and group work and choral drills for that. Sometimes some students appear to be reluctant during the lesson. They show no initiative and refuse to participate. Teachers can involve them in pair work and role plays to provide a safe environment for practice. Another potentially problematic area is completing listening tasks. Teachers can try to pre-teach potentially difficult vocabulary, make sure that the tape is of a good quality and prepare extra exercises for those students who finished listening tasks faster than others.
