Throughout the history of teaching and learning languages, there were many different methods and technics applied to achieve better results. This process hasn’t stopped yet. Nowadays, in the field of ESL education the ESA (Engage-Study-Activate) teaching method has got positive approval (especially for new teachers) as it not only helps to motivate students and gives teachers a great deal of flexibility, but also exposes students to the language and gives them the opportunity to use it. Depending on the level of the students and learning objectives, I will have to choose among Straight Arrow, Boomerang or Patchwork ESA lessons to make my classes more effective. Moreover, I will have to come up with the suitable activities to fully involve students on the Engage stage, let them learn new English language concepts in a fun way on the Study stage and give them a chance to use the language and experiment with it on the Activate stage.
