This lesson reinforced much of what I learned in my Education degree relating to adulating learning principles and student-centerer principles of effective teaching and learning. It also reinforced what I learned as a Training Development Officer with the Canadian Armed Forces. Importantly, it enabled me to mentally apply these principles in the teaching English as a foreign language context.
This unit emphasized to me the importance of practically applying principles of human nature and human learning to teaching English as a foreign language. In general, people do not want to be embarrassed or made to feel incompetent. People want to feel they have autonomy and self-direction over their learning and people want to feel valued and engaged in the learning process.
This unit did a great job of focusing on these fundamental principles and I have gained much from it.
