Receptive skills are something I really hadn't spent much time thinking about until recently. Not only am I working on getting my English teaching certification, I am also studying and improving my skills in American Sign Language. I am part of several groups that are studying language, and am surprised at how often receptive skills come up. Being able to understand what is going on an make deductions based on the information we have is vital in communicating with each other. Even as a native speaker of the English language, I have been surprised at how often we really don't hear an entire conversation, and use our predictive and deductive skills to figure out what is going on. The human brain is amazing!
