I have been lesson planning throughout my teaching career although it was not as elaborate as this course suggests. Planning a lesson is necessary especially at early stages of working as a teacher. With time some items become self-understood so you leave them out. In my view, it is really important to take short and simple notes, perhaps adding only key words or their short forms to the plan, because lesson flow itself doesn't allow for long referring to the plan. In class you will only be able to have a brief look at what has been prepared beforehand. Longer reading and pauses break lesson dynamics which may cause problems. Sticking to timing has always been my problem. On the other hand, I do think that one effective exercise is worth three mediocre ones so if my students are doing well with an activity, I do not want to interrupt them until they have run out of ideas.
