Unit 13 covers how to use phonology of teaching pronunciation of the English language. It starts by stating that many teachers do not delve into teaching pronunciation because of a number of reasons. One being that they are not too familiar with it and feel uncomfortable teaching it. I find it to be a very important part of learning a language and this chapter has taught me more about using the English phonemes more effectively. The explanation of what intonation is and its variations in our speech is extremely helpful in turn when teaching it to students. Having the right intonation for an expression can mean a lot in day to day communication and avoid misunderstandings. The stress on syllables is equally important when speaking or when understanding what someone is telling you. The table with the phonemes, the anatomy of their placement or origination is very helpful to know as well as learning the sound of the phonemes. I will certainly be using this tool for classes in pronunciation. Being able to help the students pronunciate correctly, placing the right stress and intonation will make them feel more confident when they speak.
