Unit two of the course provides an overview of the various parts of speech in English grammar: nouns, adjectives, adverbs, articles, prepositions, pronouns, and verbs. There are many aspects of English grammar which native speakers often have never stopped to consider, particularly from the perspective of a foreigner accustomed to different grammatical conventions. Some examples of this include the order in which we list multiple adverbs or adjectives, the numerous irregular verbs, and the various rules for including or leaving off definite and indefinite articles with certain categories of nouns. It is important for a teacher to have a solid grasp of all of these basic grammatical principles, and to be able to explain them effectively to non-native speakers.
