Reading and listening are receptive skills and they are as important as speaking and writing, which are productive skills. Reading can be easier compared to listening because the student has the opportunity to reread certain parts of the text. When I was studying Italian, listening exercises were difficult because although I knew how to read some words, I didn't easily recognize them when I heard them. As with anything that needs to be learned, choosing a topic that is both interesting and appropriate for the students' level is a must.
