From this unit I observed the importance of being prepared for the lesson, understanding the structure of the lesson and level of the students. From the first lesson it was evident that the teacher was ill-prepared, as he kept referring to the lesson plan and used language not familiar to the students. He began the lesson with words like necessary and acceptable before engaging them or explaining the learning outcomes of the lesson. It was clear that the students were confused, as they did not know how to respond, and when he began to use words like 'no' and 'wrong' they would have felt intimidated and less likely to answer. I have learnt the value of positive body language and facial expressions and positive reinforcement to encourage students to participate in the lesson, and to make sure I give every student opportunities to respond.
