Unit 9 teaches about lesson plans. First it discusses the functions of a lesson plan, including: An aid to planning, a working document, a record of what the class has done and materials used.
Secondly this unit mentions principles of lesson planning, including: keep it simple, don’t script the lesson, structure it and maintain the structure, write anticipated time in the margin, check for balance of skills, how activities fit together to give the lesson a smooth flow, and keep it flexible.
I learned that lesson plans should include the following: learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids needed, anticipate problems, procedure/activities, phase (ESA), timing, interaction type for each stage, class level, number of students, date/time.
Also, don’t forget to monitor your lessons and give yourself feedback on what went well or didn’t.
Lastly, there are factors to consider when planning a sequence of lessons: flexibility, overall goals, revision, variety and balance.
