Wow! This was a great lesson! I have never thought about the different parts of speech much, or the way our mouths work differently to make sounds. It was very interesting to read about the slight differences in tongue position or air movement that make changes in the words we form. Having grown up learning the English language, I take most of the sounds I make for granted. I never have to think about the way they are formed.
I currently teach English to Chinese children and as I have tried to speak some Chinese words, I have discovered that there are sounds in their language that I have a hard time making. After reading this lesson, I can see it is because of the way the tongue is trained to make sounds. The Chinese language requires positions that my mouth is not used to making. This was a very interesting lesson.
