Receptive skills are very important for a student's understanding of English since they will spend much of their time outside of class reading and listening. Most students will not be required outside of class to speak and write English, so it will be important to facilitate activities that encourage not only reading and listening, but also speaking and writing. Students will rely on predictive skills, scanning and skimming to get better scores in class during the Study phase, so a teacher will have to check in with all students there level of actual understanding during the Activate phase.
