This unit taught me about ways to teach new vocabulary and sentence structures, and gave me sample lesson plans that are suitable for students of various English levels. The lesson opened with points I would need to consider when it coms to choosing vocabulary to teach, such as how appropriate the words are to the lesson, does it match up with the students' current English level, how often it is used, and so on. I've learned that not only do I need to ensure students understand the meaning and pronunciation of a new vocabulary word, but I must effectively teach them how the word is commonly used, how it interacts with others words, and how it behaves depending on the grammar tense. This unit also mapped out different lesson plans based on the ESA teaching method, and I was able to get a better understanding of what exercises best suit learning vocabulary, structure, and language functions. Now that I am more familiar with the ESA teaching method, it has become easier to understand what activities can be used for each stage, and it has helped me better visualize what a typical class curriculum would look like.
