Two very important forms in English are conditionals and reporting speech. Both are common in native English but can be confusing, so it is important for students to take the time to learn them. What makes them confusing is how conditionals are often used to say theoretical situations and reporting often includes relative times. For students, learning the different forms of the conditionals will help them learn what the speaker is trying to infer as it is not always explicitly said. For reporting speech, it is important for students to understand how the verb tenses will change in order to convey the same idea that was said. The most troubling part is getting the relative times correct especially as other languages do not use the same time conventions as English. However, this skill is critical as being able to explain what one person said is need daily. These two skills may take more time for students to learn due to how much nuance and implicit meaning is conveyed in English.
