The content of Unit 1 (Teachers and Learners) reminds me of a syllabus. In many ways, the syllabus is viewed as a contract between the teacher and the respective pupils. It clearly communicates the expectations of both parties. For example, it gives a guideline on the appropriate behavior and etiquettes, such as the different "hats" of the teacher (Participant, Tutor, Resource, Model, Monitor). Some other examples are how different age groups should be approached differently and uniquely, and there are different Language Levels... so distinctions need to be made. The relationship between the teacher and students requires much finesse and careful attention and sensitivity. There can't be good students without a good teacher, and vice versa.
