This unit covered phonology and I think it was the hardest lesson to date. There were sections on intonation and stress, a whole section on the phonetic alphabet and stress rules on words and well as intonation rules. There was a lot of information in this unit: in fact I think it would have been better divided into 2 lessons especially as there was plenty of really new information related to phonetics. While I do see that for some students the phonetics can really help I wonder if I will ever use them as Burmese students already have to cope with an alphabet that is completely different to the English alphabet and I think it could cause mega confusion. I did enjoy the poem by George Bernard Shaw however! Complaint: I think the color question in the phonetic spelling is dreadful. My initial reaction is that blue always seems cool, then I start to wonder if in a fashion sense black is the cool color ( as in little black dress or black jeans) and then I realize that white reflects heat and is thus the coolest color. I left it as blue but am probably wrong!!
