This unit was about the receptive skills of listening and reading. The idea of tasks to promote understanding, not just check understanding, is useful. I tend to use tasks that check understanding, such as true/ false questions in my lessons. I could definitely improve on that aspect of teaching receptive skills. Everything else, I think generally goes fairly well in my lessons although it can be difficult to strike the right balance between pre-teaching difficult points and still giving the students the opportunity to understand without literally knowing every word. Part of this, in my experience, is also ensuring students are comfortable with the idea that they don’t always need to know every word to understand and to communicate.
