This lesson taught me various methods of teaching, and which styles and theories best suited certain classes based on the age of the students and levels of fluency. It focused on ways to teach English and the pros and cons of each method. Each method is beneficial for some aspect of learning, but it is also important to understand that picking and choosing a certain combination of these methods will create a good balance for the students based on their needs. An important point brought up in this lesson was how to encourage and elicit responses from students to increase student talk time. I learned how to structure lessons in order to give students a chance to engage and use what has been learned in class, such as the Engage, Study, and Activate method. This lesson outlined different ways to switch up the order of these three points so that students are constantly using the language, studying new content on the language, and then using what they've learned through role-playing or group discussions. Seeing how to put together a basic lesson plan through the ESA method helped me gain a foundation for how to create a fluid lesson plan that allows students to constantly apply what they've learned through speaking.
