This part is the advanced part of the grammar. Especially to me, how to distinguish defining relative clauses and non-defining relative clauses is very useful. A relative clauses is introduced by a relative pronoun: who, which, that, whose, etc or relative pronoun may be omitted. If the information given in a relative clause is essential, it is defining clause. Otherwise, it is a non-defining clause. For example, this is the pen that I have been looking for. That I have been looking for is essential and modifying the pen. It is a defining relative clause. For example, Peter, who is 25, still play a toy. Who is 25 is not essential information in this sentence. It could be taken out without substantially changing the meaning of the sentence.
