Unit 13 deals with teaching pronunciation and phonology. It introduces concepts such as the phonetic alphabet, and provides insight on the ways we produce different types of sounds when we speak. It is especially useful to keep in mind how English speakers frequently deviate from the proper articulation of words in everyday speech, as this could be a source of great confusion for a non-native speaker. Additionally, the poem on page 12 of the lesson provides an extremely useful resource for tackling the problematic and often non-nonsensical relationship of spelling to pronunciation in English which is no doubt a source of great frustration and confusion for students of the language.
