In this unit, we talked about how to manage a class. 1. students groupings. We can group students into one whole class, individuals, pairs and groups. For the whole class to be one group, it may be hard for shy students to stand in front of the whole class, so I think at this time, the teacher should try some methods to encourage them and give them confidence, but absolutely we can't force or embarrass them. Pair-work and group-work can help with students' talking time and their cooperation ability. But we should be aware that some students may dominate the whole process and some weak students may feel uncomfortable. Teachers should notice this while monitoring the process.
2. Seating arrangement. I think for YLs, circles and different tables may be quite useful. Circles allow students to have eye contact with each other, and it's easier to play games together. Different tables can allow students to compete with each other and also learn from each other.
3. In this unit, we also talked about classroom problems -- why do problems happen, how to avoid and how to solve. I learnt that it's important for teachers to control their emotions. First, teachers can't let personal emotions to influence their teaching, which means teachers can't criticize students just because they are in a bad mood. Teachers should always show their enthusiasm towards teaching. Second, when facing a problem, teachers should remain calm and never go mad. Teachers should respect and love students and try to know the reasons of bad behaviors in order to solve the problem.
Love the students just like loving ourselves.
