Unit 15 addresses evaluations and testing, to include placement tests, diagnostic tests, progress tests, practice tests, and external exams. Placement tests are used to determine what level of language course a study belongs in. Similarly, a diagnostic test is given to a class at the beginning of a course to determine where the class is at collectively with their studies, what they are struggling with, and hence where lessons might start or what they might emphasize. Progress tests are designed to be used throughout a course to gauge what the students' are successfully retaining. Practice tests are to prepare students for any of the external exams they will be taking. There are many kinds of external exams which certify English proficiency in accordance to the standards of different countries and different institutions.
