It is incredibly important for the teacher to be positive and confident during the first lesson. The students first impression of the teacher will set how they decide to interact for the rest of the course. If they notice the teacher referring to the course book too many times, they will think the teacher is never prepared. If the teacher relies on games for much of the lesson to win their approval they will not give homework enough of a priority. Figuring out who the stronger and the weaker students are will help the teacher to redesign the seating plan or what kinds of activities all of the students can participate in.
