Unit seven addresses methods of introducing and teaching new vocabulary and grammatical concepts to students. In the case of vocabulary it is important to select words based on their appropriacy, frequency of use, and teachability. Additionally the instructor must provide students with all the necessary information about a new term, to include not only its pronunciation, meaning, and spelling, but also where the term belongs grammatically, when the term is appropriate to use, and how the term might interact with other words around it. When teaching new vocabulary or elements of language structure, it is important that the instructor use games and activities which correctly correspond to the appropriate stages of the ESA model.
