I have learned that a teacher has to play many roles, and often those roles will change during a class period. It is important to make sure that you are playing the correct role at the correct time. For example, you may be facilitating an activity where the students have to speak English with each other, but if a student is having difficulty with the vocabulary used in the game, you might go over and prompt them with some questions to assist them. I have also learned that it is important to tailor the classes to the type of learners in the class, which can be a challenge in a group setting where the learners are different ages and have different reasons for being there. You may do more prompting with one person and more modeling with another person.
