The content in Unit 11 (Teaching Receptive Skills) maps out the "cornerstone" basic skills of language - reading and listening (receptive skills) and speaking and writing (productive skills). As opposed to artificial intelligence of programming a computer, teaching a human a language is not so straightforward. You guide them in a general direction, but leave it to them to master it via receptive and productive skills. A good teacher will be able to spark the curiosity and interest of the pupils, so that it will come about naturally and organic, instead of forcing them to memorize and retain. It is much like subliminal advertising. The audience may not be blatantly told every detail; rather it is for them to uncover those bits of detail as they engage, study, and activate during the learning exercises.
