This unit focused on teaching new language, including vocabulary, grammar, and language function. First and foremost, it is important for a student to be exposed to, practice/produce, and understand the meaning and construction of new language in order to learn it effectively. Choosing which new language to teach can depend on a number of factors, such as appropriacy (to the students and the task), teachability, and frequency in which the students will typically encounter the language. Several different ESA lesson structures can work to effectively teach new language, and are most effective when students are actively engaged and participating in practicing the language.
