This unit talks about receptive skills – reading and listening. While these skills can be learnt, the learning or teaching of these skills could present potential problems. The motive behind these skills fall into two broad categories, 1) for a purpose and/or 2) for entertainment. When we read or listen, we use our pre- existent knowledge to understand what is being read or spoken. This helps us understand the context/information a lot better. Listening and reading activities will help students sharpen their receptive skills as well as improve their knowledge and understanding of the language.
