I agree with one of the statements in the material that says that "many teachers are not in favor of formal testing as it is often more of a memory test than actual knowledge", however, I also know that we do somehow have to have some generalized method of saying whether a student has achieved a particular standard in a subject or not and on an impartial basis and therefore we utilize tests and so forth to find those results. I am pleased to find these days that testing options are becoming a bit more flexible particularly where this concerns individual learning styles and issues.
