In this unit we learned the different methods to alleviate certain problems we as teachers will run into. Those problems include new group settings where no one is familiar with each other, varying levels of ability within a class, large classes, use of native language instead of English among students and finally, reluctant students. All these issues have simple solutions but the teacher must be aware and prepared to use different techniques. It is important to keep all students engaged no matter the class size. This can be done using games, activities and worksheets. For students within a class who are more capable, you can pair the strong students with each other or pair strong students with weak students so they can help. It is definitely important to establish rapport with your students right away to get a sense of everyone's abilities but also their personalities. For students who are more reluctant, they will feel more comfortable and encouraged if they get to know the teacher on a more personal level, just as it is important for the teacher to get to know each student more personally as well.
