This unit highlighted how important it is for teachers to build rappprt with the students during class and be enthusiastic while teaching. It also demonstrated the importance of introducing the target language in order for students to properly understand what is being taught and how the language is to be effectively used. In the first video the teacher made many mistakes some of which included not introducing the target language through effective demonstration, asking the students for feedback without giving proper examples first, reprimanding latecomers mid lesson and not showing correct answers to the worksheet questions on the board (only using ticks).
In the second lesson, however, the teacher greets the students at the beginning and allows each student to introduce himself/herself, writes the target language on the board and elicits student participation, uses relia during demonstration (empty plate in the restaurant), tells student to listen and repeat the word “restaurant”, and using student’s mistake of play volleyball in a restaurant in a more effective way (you can’t play volleyball in a restaurant).
The unit encourages young teachers to be mindful of how they act in the classroom and highlights the importance of proper lesson plan ideas to create an effective and efficient learning environment.
