Evaluating students is one way to assess where a student’s English level is at. There are three main ways to do this: tutorials, student evaluations, and tests. Tutorials are sometimes difficult and time consuming to plan, perform, and truly evaluate a student’s level. Student evaluations are helpful to hear the perspective of the students and see where they feel they are lacking or what can be improved. Finally, there are tests. Tests do not always evaluate a student’s English ability accurately but do have a variety of useful purposes. Tests can be used to determine the current level of a student and place them in the appropriate lessons. Tests can be used by a teacher, along with the teacher’s own time with the student, to measure progress over a period. Tests are often required of foreigners by many companies and schools. Evaluating students is an important part of the learning process and when done correctly can be used to help students effectively achieve their goals.
