This unit has two different topics -- conditionals and reported speech.
For conditionals, an important point is that we can mix certain tenses among different kind of conditionals. For example, mix of second and third: If+had done, would do.
For reported speech, we have to pay attention to the change of tenses, esp. past simple to past perfect, past continuous to past perfect continuous. And also the change of time adverbial clauses. For example, next week to the next week/the following week, etc.
For teaching conditionals, we can use chain conditionals, what a question, or mix and match...
For teaching speech, we can ask students to work in pairs and we should know for different levels of students, we should apply different methods. For example, for high levels, we can ask them to use certain reporting verbs instead of said/asked, etc.
