Bridge Creek, Wisconsin TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
I think that speaking and writing are two very important parts of language usage and this chapter gives excellent examples of how to run lessons based on these activities. While the chapter mentions that writing can sometimes be the harder of the two, I find from personal experience that writing is usually much easier for me because I can have time to fully think about what I want to say and think about the correct grammar pattern, whereas when I have to speak on the spot, I sometimes cannot think of a word right away or I use improper grammar and conjugation. I thought it was also really important to point out the importance of spelling and punctuation use and I was surprised to read the claim that English is not a phonetic language. I think English is loosely phonetic, but I find that when I read, I am not sounding out words but instead recognizing how a word looks, similar to how people read Chinese characters or Japanese Kanji. When you read a lot, you get used to how words are supposed to look, so that can help a lot with spelling.
