Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
This unit introduced some more new grammar points; the modal auxiliary verbs, passive voice and phrasal verbs. I think the list with the modal verbs is very useful because it tells what uses each verb has and gives example sentences. I think that the teaching ideas for modal verbs are also helpful and can be fun and creative projects for students such as the rules in the hotel game. Next the unit talked about the difference between passive and active voice and how passive voice is when the speaker does not wish to place emphasis on who or what performed the action, but instead on the object that was impacted. The breakdown table of tense and passive formation is helpful as well. This unit also explains the differences between independent clauses, dependent clauses and relative clauses and goes into even more depth with two categories of relative clauses: defining and non-defining relative clauses. This unit explains the difference between defining and non-defining relative clauses and highlights the importance of using commas with non-defining relative clauses. The last topic that was covered in this unit was the three types of phrasal verbs: intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable, and how to distinguish each type of phrasal verb.
