This unit holds a lot of facts I have seen about materials and books.
Most schools I teach in supply material they want taught. But I have had full control over how it is presented to students.
The authentic and created materials both I have found are very necessary. To keep students interested in lessons. And I have to supplement the books a lot so they do not become boring. They are basically materials they already know something about. Things they have done or daily. Could even be near future things to do. That keeps with objectives being taught from the book. For their age groups and student levels.
Most language books are fairly small and do not have a lot of material. Sometimes they are out dated and not vary attractive for students. And I have to create and supplement material many times. You have to be aware of the level of the books as to levels of student’s. I check the content levels and objectives to be taught. Sometimes I rearrange “adapt” the material to more suite student’s needs. That I think they can follow for their levels. If I do omits they are generally very small and something I think they will likely never deal with.
Work Books, even they sometimes do not have enough exercises on some subject material. Even sometimes too easy or difficult for students to do. And find myself creating some extra exercises or editing a lesson. But the workbook in general will give some good practice or basic skills to follow.
Sometimes I will create my own lessons just to give students a break from the books but always keep close to the subject or objectives we are on in the books.
Teacher’s books are also good for some ideas or preplanning of teaching the books in advance. Basically like a Road map to the course books. With many different teaching concepts or ideas. That can be used in planning a lesson.

Unit 13 the IPA table was new to me. And I have been studying it more so I can help students get a better understanding of it and how the sounds work.
