Apart from the general reasons such as working document, aid to teaching and record keeping associated with a lesson plan I learned more regarding the actual lay out and logical steps (sequence) that it should follow.

Personally this is probably the most important and challenging aspect of teaching.
Applying the structure which is given as a template effectively and correctly will essentially determine if your objectives will be achieved. The time management and adaptability can be improved during the various stages of teaching.
