Wayne, West Virginia TESOL Online & Teaching English Jobs
It is clear from the unit that both of the receptive skills; reading and listening are equally important. Since receptive skills are the kills that they know but not always use frequently it should be the objective to use these skills more often.
The topic of choice and language level used when teaching reading and listening should be well thought through. The reason is so that all the students can equally be catered for, thus a variety of topics and adaptability is necessary.
The topic should complement the language point.
I think it's quite easy to fall in the trap of choosing a topic that you as teacher will enjoy to teach but won't necessary be appealing to the students. To avoid this one has to try and get a good idea of what their interests are and there level of comprehension.
The sequence of the procedure is very important lest the students will lose interest or more crucially miss the aim of the lesson.
Yet again choosing the right activities and following the correct (most appropriate) steps during the lesson is vital, so that the learned skills logically build on one another. This is true for both the reading and listening skills.
Essentially at the end of the lesson students should realistically be able to complete a group activity applying the language point and vocabulary taught and practiced beforehand.
