This lesson was really helpful in explaining the different approaches to TESL, all with pros and cons of their own. Even though some are outdated, like the Audio-lingualism approach, it is important to learn why it was once effective and why it is no longer a desirable approach to teaching a second language. It is easy to feel pressured to have a perfectly planned lesson, but the reality of teaching English to new learners never goes as plan. Sometimes activities will take more time than expected, other times it will take less, so it is important to be flexible with your plan, utilizing different ESA stages as necessary. If the class is not engaged, then moving on to the study or activate stage can be tricky, as they have not absorbed the information enough.
