Grammar is essential when teaching foreign English learners. Having a broad vocabulary is extremely good for students learning a foreign language, but learning the grammar is equally important. It is good to have the vocabulary, but just having vocabulary is not enough. You must know how to use your vocabulary in a proper sentence. This is why this unit is important. To know the difference between past, present, and future is very important. If a foreign student is trying to communicate with an English native, they will have difficulty if they do not know how to distinguish past, present, and future. Knowing how to use these tenses will help properly express what they are trying to say. Therefore going into further detail, being able to know the difference between continuous and simple are equally important. If the student needs to express the action drive for example, they must know how to properly do so. They should be able to tell continuous, driving from simple, drove. are they still going or have they arrived to their final place. This can be very important if the student is wanting to travel. Overall, knowing past, present, and future are equally as important as simple, continuous, past perfect.
