Speaking and Writing, are Productive skills, speaking needs less accuracy than writing. To me because of making a general understanding of the conversation when speaking. Writing needs to be more precise and keep a format so all readers can understand. Though writing is not pushed as much in language learning. I like to still teach some writing as well so students can put their thoughts on paper. Speaking takes priority of the lesson simply because of communication process. Speaking also pulls more interaction from students. Especially on subjects they know something about. They may not have every word correct. But they can get their main message across to others. Teaching speaking fluency and accuracy also will help a lot with writing. Start with fluency then to accuracy. Both are just as important. Writing skills start by simple letter making and short words or short sentences, but let each student develop their own style. Focusing on being readable writings. For me the Best way to teach writing is Reading. So they see examples of the way words are put in order from spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. A good exercise for writing is, creative writing. Having students make short stories or write about something they have seen or done. Have them write it, then speak about it. Doing games and activities where they have to speak and write are a big benefit. To try and balance speaking and writing abilities.
