The construction of past tenses is important for new learners of English, as it allows students to talk about life prior to this point, both in class and with their peers. This unit does a good job at highlighting the usage for past tenses, as knowing when to use which past tense is a little more complex than present tenses. Past perfect is explained as ‘the past of the past’, meaning it is used when the speaker is talking about two events that coincide with the same situation, whereas perfect continuous is used with separate events that occur one after another.
