In Unit 12, I have learnt two productive skills: speaking and writing, which are used to communicate. When communicating, accuracy is as important as fluency. Accuracy activities are usually part of the study phase while fluency activities are part of the activate phase. Speaking activities include controlled, guided and creative communication, such as drilling, prompting, model dialogues, guided roll-play, free role-play, discussion, debate, information gap, stimulations and communication games. Sometimes the students may don’t want to speak for various reasons, so the teacher must encourage student to interact, including pair-work or group-work, plenty of controlled and guided practice, making speaking activities purposeful, changing the classroom dynamics and planning carefully. When writing, there’re some differences from speaking in grammar, vocabulary usage handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation, which should be guided and checked it over. Of course creative writing as well as speaking should be encouraged and left enough planning time for students. Classroom games always play an important part in improving student interaction, motivating the students and create a stimulating classroom environment.
