In Unit 14, books and materials are mainly introduced. There are some advantages of course books, such as a tried and tested syllabus, a balance of skill and continuity and procession. On the other hand, there’re also some disadvantages, for example, the course book may not fit the specific needs and interests of all students. So we need use not only course books but also some other materials, such as authentic materials and created materials, which supply, adapt and replace course books. These materials are always up-to-date and topical, targeted to specific teaching aims, and adapted to the needs of the students, so they’re more interesting and motivating. When teaching, we should use both of course books and other materials appropriately.
