One cannot really overestimate the importance of lesson planning. Plan better be flexible but the teacher should control the main direction of where the lesson is going. Because the final aim is learner objectives - all students should grasp the vital knowledge before the end of the class, otherwise the teacher has failed. Timing is of an essence here. No time should be wasted on idle talking, every bit of information generated by the teacher or students better be used for helping to achieve that final aim. The other function of lesson planing is to serve as a reminder to the teacher of previous class experiences with this particular group of students and analyzing it for future improvements. Lesson plans may also help the teacher to trace down the students’ progress from the beginning of a year. What have they learnt so far, how quickly did they learn it and what parts of the lesson require more attention of the teacher.
