Unit number 12 deals with productive skills – speaking and writing. It stresses the importance of creating the need and desire to communicate and focuses on the difference between accuracy and fluency activities, both of which are equally important. It deals with different types of speaking activities, as well as various techniques of encouraging students to speak. Moreover, guidelines for a free speaking activity are provided as well. The skill of writing is also dealt with, and special focus is given to possible problems with handwriting, spelling issues, layout and punctuation, as well as with creative writing. At the end of the unit, various communication games are provided.
