In this unit, we focused on the future tense. We covered the seven most commonly used future tenses. First, the future simple which is used for future facts and certainties. Second, we focused on the future continuous, which is used to say that something will be in progress at a future time. For example, I will be waiting for you. Third, we focused on the future perfect, which is when we want to say that an action will be completed prior to a certain time in the future. Fourth, we looked at the future perfect continuous, which is used for how long something will have continued by a certain time. This form can sometimes be confused with the future perfect, so when teaching this grammar, it is important to clarify the difference between the two. Fifth, we have the going to future, which is used for intentions. This tense looks very similar to the future simple, so it will be a good idea to teach the two tenses together to make it more understanding. The last two are actually present tenses but they are used for the future. They are the present simple and the present continuous. The present simple is used for more formal situations, like the opening of a store. The present continuous is used for definite arrangements, like going on holiday having already booked everything. What I learned most from this unit is how to break down the future tense into the various forms and how to focus on various methods to teach them. The future tense is the hardest by far, and I will need to plan to teach this in great detail to make sure I do not confuse future students.
