I like all the teaching ideas for this unit. I am happy that many of the teaching ideas do not mention the requirements of students knowing each type of conditional. Knowing whether it is zero, first, second, third, or mixed doesn’t really serve as big of a purpose as it does to know how to use the conditionals and in which situations to use different kinds. I would not be concerned with my students knowing the names, as it can be confusing to adults who are native English speakers.
For me, as a native English speaker, I find it almost effortless to translate reported speech, but I have never really thought about the intricacies related to how difficult this must be for a second language learner. I like the media reporter teaching idea. I also think something like telephone (where they have to change it to a reported version) in small groups could work well for this concept.
