I find Future tense the hardest to teach simply because it has not happened yet. Getting student to understand it can be a bit challenging. My favorite way to start with is the word Tomorrow...Not today Tomorrow. Future tense same as other 2 tenses it has 4 sub tenses future simple, future perfect, future continuous and future perfect continuous. But more definition with Going to and be going.
My way to explain these are. Simple is short and direct. Future perfect gives a end time, future continuous is never ending and future perfect continuous adds timing.
Examples:
future simple: I will go tomorrow.
future perfect:I will have gone tomorrow.
future continuous: I will be going tomorrow.
Future perfect continuous: I will have been going tomorrow
using words like Will, be, would, could, and Tomorrow sets up the future tense when talking about things that have not happened yet.
But using have and have been is similar to Present tense as well and helps on recognizing perfect and perfect continuous.
I love using body gestures for this simply standing in one spot then move. Where I am standing is the Present where I stood before is the past where I am walking to is the future. To give young learners a good idea of the Future Tense. I say How I will be doing certain things later. This helps opening up students to talk about things they want to do in the near future or later in time.
Some future tense does get easily confused with Present tense when linking the moment to the future it even confuses me at times.
But some of my favorite are making predictions Example it will rain to tomorrow.
the Be going or going to is can also be a bit difficult student will leave off ING off going allot.
Future tense is probably one of the most difficult to teach.
